The theme of FoodBooster 2026: Emerging tools to improve our nutritional environment reflects the urgent need for innovative solutionsto enhance the nutritional quality of our diets and promote healthier food systems worldwide. In an era marked by rapid advancements in food science and technology, we are increasingly equipped with emerging tools that have the potential to transform our approach to nutrition. These tools are not only shaping the future of food but also addressing some of the most pressing challenges in food, nutritionand public health.
At the core of this transformation are functional ingredients that can significantly impact our health and well-being. Three key functional ingredients will take centre stage at the conference: probiotics, prebiotics, and bioactive peptides, as these three ingredients are central to the IIS FoodBooster.

Gerard Bannenberg has been working at the intersection of lipid science, toxicology, and industrial applications for many years.
Since joining GOED in 2014, he has coordinated the organization’s Technical Committee and contributed extensively to the development and maintenance of the GOED Monograph and guidance documents on contaminants and product quality. His academic background includes a B.Sc. in Biopharmaceutical Sciences from Leiden University and a Ph.D. from Karolinska Institute. He subsequently carried out postdoctoral research at Brigham, Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, focusing on omega-3-derived lipid mediators and inflammation resolution. His work also includes research on oxidants, airway biology, and endogenous detoxification systems, as well as industrial innovation in lipid applications at Solutex.
This
conference may be of particular interest to universities, research
institutes, laboratories, companies, and organizations involved in
nutrition, food science, lipid research,
and health products.
A networking drink will follow the presentation and provide an opportunity for informal discussions with the speaker and attendees.
