Symposium 2026
"The interplay between
nutrition and brain health"
2026 Annual symposium of the Belgian Nutrition Society
📅 Date: September 18 , 2026 | 📍 Location: Galilée Brussels
The annual symposium of the Belgian Nutrition Society will be held on 18 September 2026 in Brussels (Galilee building), a whole day dedicated to science and conviviality where confirmed experts and young researchers share their passion for nutrition.
We will have the chance to hear four keynote speeches given by outstanding scientists. In addition, slots will be offered for short oral communications and poster sessions will be organized throughout the day.
The keynote speakers will be
- Lukas Van Oudenhove (KULeuven): Small Molecules, Big Impact? - Short-chain fatty acids as microbiota-gut-brain axis mediators of human psychophysiology
- Amandine Everard (UCLouvain): Gut microbes and reward-related eating behaviors
- Filippo Annoni (HUBrussels, Belgium): Energy substrates for the injured brain
- Charlotte De Backer (UAntwerpen): From Nutrients to Narratives: Why communication about, around and through food matters for health outcomes
Even if the main topic will deal with the interplay between nutrition and brain health, the day (oral and poster communications) is however open to all other research areas related to nutrition, going from food science and technology to clinical and public health aspects.
So, save the date in your calendar and do not forget to renew your membership to the BNS, or become member, as soon as possible to support our activities.
How to register ?

2
If you are still not member of BNS in 2026...
but would like to join because you are involved in research activities linked to nutrition, go first to the “Membership page” and pay your membership fee. Then, come back and claim your free symposium pass using option 1.
3
If you have no activities linked to our research area...
but want to participate in the annual symposium without registering as a member. Proceed to the registration and the payment as a Non Member.
How and when to submit an abstract ?
Young scientists who are members of the BNS will have the opportunity to make a short oral communication or present a poster, on any topic related to nutrition (going from food science to public health). So it means that all contributions related to nutrition research, including topics outside the scope of the congress, are welcome.
Be aware of the followings:
- The number of registration for the symposium will be limited to 150 persons
- The number of short oral or written communications will be limited to 36 (30 posters and 6 oral presentations)
- Abstracts for oral or poster presentations can be submitted to contactbelgiannutritionsociety@gmail.com before the deadline April 17th 5PM (Abstract template to be downloaded from the Symposium 2026 page).
- A time slot of 12 minutes will be dedicated to each selected oral presentation
- Each poster will be first presented orally during 60 seconds in order to tease the audience with one unique slide (practical information will be given to the selected researchers).
- During the symposium, there will be an award for the best oral and poster presentation
