Protein requirements measured by the indicator amino acid oxidation method are elevated long-term after roux-en-y gastric bypass surgery in adult men.
Protein intake recommendations after metabolic and bariatric surgery are based on weak evidence and does not consider time since surgery. We determined long-term protein requirements in adult men after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) using the Indicator Amino Acid Oxidation (IAAO) method. This study provides the first direct estimate of protein requirements long-term after RYGB.
Speaker: Gabriël Johannes Eksteen is a research associate at KU Leuven in the field of Clinical and Experimental Endocrinology, with research interests related to protein intake and nutritional outcomes after bariatric surgery.
